We’re going to Memphis! Annie Lou has been selected for an official showcase at the International Folk Alliance Conference 2011 in Memphis, Tennessee in February. We’re really happy that our friends New Country Rehab will be there too. If you haven’t heard of this band, check them out at www.myspace.com/newcountryrehab
Pacific Contact We’ll be playing an official showcase at Pacific Contact in Burnaby, BC this coming April. We’re pretty sure the flowers will be out, and we will have musical respite from what we call the Brown Time up north (mud, slush, and more mud).
WCMA Nomination! We are delighted to announce that our debut album has received its third nomination, a Western Canadian Music Award nomination for Group/Duo Roots Album of the Year. Congrats to all the other nominees, and to our fellow Yukoner Gordie Tentrees for his nomination for Solo Roots Album of the Year.
Post Juno report: St. John’s, Nfld. is an amazing place. Anne Louise and Meredith made it to the rock, in spite of the wind and snow that forced many nominees and other Juno-bound folks to the ground in Halifax. After a looooong wait in Toronto, Mer managed to make it just in time for the gala awards dinner on Saturday night. Congratulations to the Good Lovelies on their win in our category! The gala was a lovely event, with delicious food, great music, and short speeches. We then raced down to the Shamrock City Pub and played to a very enthusiastic pub audience who forgave us for being a duo instead of the full band, and cheered and stomped and called for more. We had a beautiful room at At Wit’s Inn – if you ever need a place to stay in St. John’s, that is the place go!
2010 Juno Nomination It’s true! Annie Lou has been nominated for Roots & Traditional Album of the Year – Group. Wow. We’re honoured to be sharing the nomination with Carolyn Mark & NQ Arbuckle, The Good Lovelies, Great Lake Swimmers, and Madison Violet. Hooray for everyone!
The Juno Awards take place April 17 & 18 in magical St. John’s, Nfld. Anne Louise and Meredith are heading out to represent, cheer all the Juno nominees, and eat lobster. Possibly also flipper pie will pass their lips. And maybe some local libations. Maybe.
Summer 2010 promises to be pretty swell with some wonderful festivals on the horizon. Check out the ‘Shows’ page for updates on where we will be hanging our jupes in July!
Canadian Folk Music Awards We were delighted to be nominated for a 2009 Canadian Folk Music Award as Ensemble of the Year for our debut album Annie Lou.
2009 Fall Showcases and House Concerts
After a successful CD release tour last spring, Annie Lou was selected for official showcase spots at the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils and the Arts Touring Alliance of Alberta. While we were out we got to visit our favourite sheep farm in St. Paul, AB – thanks to Elena Drobot and partner in crime Lee for another great house concert, and to Lola the Great Pyrenee for keeping the coyotes at bay. On to Saskatoon, where Gillian Snider made us feel right at home with a bonfire in the back yard, and the good people of Lydia’s helped end the night in style. In Regina Karen Herriot has the perfect home for a house concert – including tiered seating, awesome mulled cider, and a great community of folks who came out to listen. We wrapped it all up with a viewing of Where the Wild Things Are on the big screen in Calgary. Gotta take advantage of city things when in the city!
